Frugal Tuesday Tip - Track Your Spending

Do you know where your money goes each month? I've already confessed that I Don't Have a Budget, but I do recommend tracking your spending.  You can use a simple spreadsheet method like I use or something more advanced like Microsoft Money.  However you do it - just start.  You will find it easier to answer the "Where is my money going?"  question.   You may also find that there are many areas where it would be easy to cut back a little, but the first step is knowing where your money goes.

  1. I don't have a budget and I don't track my spending. Our method is to have a lot in reserve. If that reserve starts to dwindle then we pull up stakes and halt all spending. It seems to work for us!

  2. We don't track spending nor do we have a budget. We just try to keep an eye on savings, and if it starts to go into a range that makes us nervous, we start cutting back...like the Chief Blonde!

Stumbled you...would love if you could stumble back:

  3. Hi! I found your article from Stumble Tumble Tuesday. I stumbled you, please stumble me back. :)

I don't track spending anymore, but I did for quite a while to get a feel for where our money was going. It made me feel better to see that we may seem to spend a lot, but it was not on anything that we didn't want to be spending on.

  4. When we get off track, keeping a list of our expenses seems to put us back into perspective. We write down everything, even drinks or snacks. This lets us see where we are spending our money.

  7. Yes, this is a great tip. I try and keep on top of this, as it really does help, but ot's so darn time consuming that I tend to let it go.
