The Flirtation Experiment Book Review & Giveaway #FlirtationExperimentMIN #TheFlirtationExperiment #MomentumInfluencerNetwork

Disclosure:  This book was provided free of charge for the purpose of this review.

From popular Christian voices Lisa Jacobson and Phylicia Masonheimer, The Flirtation Experiment inspires you to strengthen your marriage with a fun, unexpected approach that leads to the depth, richness, and closeness you desire.

After reading The Flirtation Experiment, wives will…
be filled with hope and encouragement for how they can make a powerful, positive change in their marriages, become empowered to pursue their husbands romantically, understand the Bible invites women to be proactive in their marriages, be motivated to consistently love in creative ways, and forge closeness and intimacy in their marriages.

I don't make New Year's Resolutions, but I do like the idea of setting goals for myself and my relationships.  One of the goals I want to focus on this year is having monthly date nights with my husband.  I'm not sure when or how it happened but we have let each other fade into the background of our lives so much that we didn't even really celebrate our birthdays last year together.  That was when it hit me that our relationship needed something.  Regular date nights are a start but there is always more work to be done because yes, marriage is work, but worth the effort.  So even though I haven't been doing much actual reading these days (I discovered audiobooks during the pandemic and will forever be hooked) I was glad to be offered a copy of The Flirtation Experiment to read and share with you.  It came at just the right time.

I really like that the book is divided into small sections that are easily digestible.  You can read it from start to finish but you could also skip around if you want to move from playfulness straight to romance.  Each of the chapters of the book offer personal stories and insights from the two women and sometimes their spouses and also a way for you to experiment in your own marriage.  There is a call to action section called Your Flirtation Experiment that gives you ideas and conversation starters for you to incorporate into your marriage.

Another reason I appreciate this book is that I can relate to both of the authors in different ways.  My twenty years of marriage is more similar to Lisa's twenty years but like Phylicia we are parents to three children none of whom are driving themselves around quite yet.  I related instantly to Phylicia's story about the five love languages and not scoring the same as my husband in regards to physical touch.  There were many more moments of relating to the authors while reading this book. Honestly I can say that this isn't a book that I just read once and will be done with.  I will be a reference guide for me and for our marriage whenever we are in need of a boost.

You can learn more about The Flirtation Experiment by visiting the official website.
While you are there you can also download the first two chapters for FREE!

Order the book here or on Amazon. It's available in print form but also available as an audiobook too!

Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase Blu-ray Combo Pack Giveaway #NancyDrew #TheHiddenStaircase

Disclosure:  Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own.

The iconic mystery solving teenager from the classic Nancy Drew books is back with an all-new feature length film that will keep you guessing until the very end! Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will release the Nancy Drew And The Hidden Staircase Blu-ray™ Combo Pack & DVD on April 2, 2019. Executive Produced by Ellen DeGeneres, the film stars Sophia Lillis (IT and “Sharp Objects”), Sam Trammell (“True Blood” and “This is Us”), and Linda Lavin (“The Good Wife” and“Alice”) and follows Nancy Drew in her new town, making new friends and on a mission to solve the case! The film carries a suggested retail price of $19.99 for the Digital, $19.98 for the DVD and $28.98 for the Blu-ray Combo Pack.

After the death of his wife, Carson Drew decides to leave Chicago behind and make a fresh start with his daughter in River Heights. But for 16-year-old Nancy Drew, life in a small town is mighty dull. She longs for excitement, adventure, and the chance to make a difference. Nancy gets that opportunity when she is asked to help solve the ghostly activity at the Twin Elms mansion. Can she help explain the creaking footsteps, exploding lightbulbs and the ominous creature? Is it the handiwork of high-school bully Derek Barnes? Or is it possible that the ghost of original owner Malcolm Colfax is back for revenge? Recruiting her best friends George and Bess, along with local “mean girl” Helen, Nancy Drew is on the case!

I read a ton of Nancy Drew mysteries growing up so I was very excited to share the character with my daughter.  We enjoy watching mystery series together so it was a natural fit for us for a movie night.  I liked seeing a Nancy Drew for a new generation.  My daughter found a couple scenes to be a little intense, but overall it's a movie that most school-aged children will enjoy.
Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase is out April 2nd on Digital, Blu-ray and DVD!

Check out the Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase Escape Room & Mystery Match Blog App below:
  • Welcome to the Interactive Nancy Drew Escape Room - to escape, you must solve riddles and find items to uncover the three numbers needed to open to door. Good Luck!

Santa Bruce by Ryan T. Higgins ~ Children's Book Review

Disclosure:  This book was provided by Disney Publishing Worldwide for the purpose of this review. All opinions are 100% mine.

Santa Bruce is a children's board book that was released earlier this fall.  The story by Ryan T. Higgins puts his grumpy bear character Bruce in another situation he is not at all happy about. The forest animals have decided that he is Santa so of course he should listen to what everyone wants for Christmas and then deliver the presents too.

About the Book:
Bruce is a lot of things. He is a bear. He is a grump. He is a pretty decent cook. And he is a mother.
One thing Bruce is not?
Santa Claus.
But that doesn't stop the whole forest from lining up to give him their Christmas wishes when he becomes the victim of mistaken identity-again.

My youngest and I read together every night and this month has been all about Christmas books.  It's fun to have another one in our rotation that's a different take on Santa Claus.   As a parent I can relate to Bruce when he decides he wants to sleep through Christmas next year!

The illustrations are also done by Ryan and are a lot fun.  The hardcover book is 48 pages, so there is a lot going on in the story.  The pictures show the wide variety of forest animals that visit Bruce. There's so much to take in when reading the story especially when everyone is together having a Christmas feast. Like in 1 Grumpy Bruce the bear's facial expressions in each scene are really great.

This book is recommended for kids ages 4 to 7. It's perfect for fans of the Bruce character and a great addition to your Christmas book collection.  It would make a nice gift for a preschooler or kindergartner.

My family loves playing games together.  There are times though when some of us can get a little competitive so finding games where we can laugh more instead of worrying about the score so much is really nice.  Watch Ya' Mouth is the perfect game for when you're feeling a little silly and you're perfectly cool with looking and sounding a bit ridiculous. My kids have seen the Watch Ya' Mouth game around and thought it looked like fun, so they were pumped when we sent a version of the game to play.

1 Grumpy Bruce by Ryan T. Higgins ~ Children's Book Review

Disclosure:  This book was provided by Disney Publishing Worldwide for the purpose of this review. All opinions are 100% mine.

1 Grumpy Bruce is a children's board book that was released earlier this fall.  The story by Ryan T. Higgins puts his bear character Bruce in a situation with a growing number of houseguests. Read and count along with your child as you're introduced to the different animals that show up unexpectedly.

About the Book:
1 grumpy bear
2 uninvited skunks
3 mice throwing a party
. . . and it only gets worse from there.
Long-suffering Bruce once again contends with an increasingly crowded household, this time in an original board book where young ones can count the never-ending party guests. Full of fun characters and humor, 1 Grumpy Bruce is just right for our littlest readers.

My youngest and I have been reading this one quite a bit lately.  He's in preschool and still working on learning his numbers.  He loves to count though so it's fun for him to count the different animals on each page.  It's fun to read what each one is doing.  It seems like all the animals are having fun, except for one particular bear of course.  I think the parent in me can relate to Bruce!

The illustrations are also done by Ryan and are a lot fun.  They include a variety of animals including some unexpected ones to be visiting Bruce.  Bruce's facial expressions in each scene make me smile.

This book is recommended for kids ages 2 to 5. I think that is a great book for your little ones that like animals and/or are learning their numbers and learning to count.

NIV, Adventure Bible, Polar Exploration Edition Review & Giveaway #PolarAdventureBible #FlyBy

Disclosure:  This book was provided free of charge for the purpose of this review.

The NIV, Adventure Bible brand has sold over 9 million copies and is loved by Christian schools, churches and families.  They recently added a Polar Exploration edition of the bible that's available now.  Parents love that it's the same trusted bible content and children will love the frosty new theme.  The Adventure Bible contains full color images of polar animals, arctic outposts and icy landscapes that help make learning about the bible even more engaging.

The Adventure Bible has a lot of different highlight boxes throughout the text that I liked and will really draw your child's attention.  Highlighted sections include themes like Words to Treasure, People in Bible Times, Life in Bible Times, Did You Know? and Live It!  I also liked that each chapter has a page dedicated to information about the book such as who wrote it, what we learn about God in it, when it happened and some of the stories included.  There are also special sections throughout the bible on things as basic as how to pray.

I think children who have this bible will enjoy the polar theme and appreciate the additional highlights.  The hardcover is nice quality and frosty polar bear cover is eye catching. It is a nice addition to our Bible collection.  The Adventure Bible is a good option for an older child.  It is recommended for ages 8-12 years. Published by Zonderkidz the NIV, Adventure Bible, Polar Exploration Edition is available on Amazon now.

Children's Book Review ~ We Don't Eat Our Classmates

Disclosure:  This book was provided by Disney Publishing Worldwide for the purpose of this review. All opinions are 100% mine.

We Don't Eat Our Classmates is a children's picture book that was released in hardcover copy over the summer.  The story by Ryan T. Higgins puts a new twist on the first day of school by making the anxious student a dinosaur named Penelope Rex. She just happens to have a taste for children.  Will she learn that her new classmates are more than just delicious? How does it feel when no one wants to be friends.

About the Book:
It's the first day of school for Penelope Rex, and she can't wait to meet her classmates. But it's hard to make human friends when they're so darn delicious! That is, until Penelope gets a taste of her own medicine and finds she may not be at the top of the food chain after all. . . .Readers will gobble up this hilarious new story from award-winning author-illustrator Ryan T. Higgins.

Reading this story with my little guy was a lot of fun as he was getting ready to go back to school and even more enjoyable now that he's been in his classroom for a while.  The story showed that everyone has the same concerns about going into new situations and meeting new people.  "Will they be nice?" It also shared that children are the same on the inside and it can be hard to make friends, but it is worth it in the end to make an effort.

The illustrations also done by Ryan are a lot fun.  The book's pictures take us along as Penelope spends time at home and school.  I thought the dinosaur pictures as drawn by Penelope's classmates were a nice touch.

Children's Book Reviews ~ Company's Coming and Company's Going by Arthur Yorinks

Disclosure:  These books were provided by Disney Book Group for the purpose of this review. All opinions are 100% mine.

Company's Coming is a children's picture book that was written in 1988 by Arthur Yorinks.  This past spring a new hardcover edition hardcover was released.  The book tells the story of Shirley and Moe on the day they were expecting relatives over for dinner.  They instead get a surprise from outer space and both handle the event in different ways.  The story is a little bit science fiction mixed in with human nature and how to treat others.

About the Book:
On the day Shirley had invited all of her relatives to dinner and Moe, her husband, was pleasantly tinkering in the yard, a flying saucer quietly landed next to their toolshed. Shirley and Moe. Just a regular couple from Bellmore. Today, all they are expecting is a nice, quiet dinner with a few cousins. But what do they get? Spacemen! From outer space! They don't know it yet, but with a touch of human (and alien) kindness and a heaping bowl of spaghetti and meatballs, the galaxy is about to get a little bit smaller.

I read this book with my preschool age son who got a big kick out of reading a book with spaceships and aliens in it.  The books is funny and I really enjoyed the humor in it even if my son may have missed some of it.  I think there are nice lessons that have held up over the 30 years since it was first published.

The illustrations by David Small are fun and give you a great visual of the story.  The pictures put us in that suburban neighborhood and you can relate to the  expressions on the character faces and maybe even find them familiar.

The book's sequel Company's Going was written by Yorinks in 2001. It also features illustrations by David Small so we get brought right back the night of Shirley and Moe's dinner.  This time around they are going to get a chance to be the visitors from outer space when they travel with their spacemen friends to their planet to cater a wedding.

The books are recommended for ages 3-5 years though I would say that older children will enjoy these too.  If you're looking for a unique story to read with your kiddos both of these are great options that will keep you both entertained. Company's Coming and Company's Going are published by Disney-Hyperion and are available at all major book retailers now and on Amazon.

SmitCo LLC is a company that sells all kinds of gifts for girls online.  Their mission is to provide affordable, quality products.  I recently picked out a couple of their gift sets for my daughter to try out at home.  She is almost 10 and loves all things girly.  She is always wanting new notepads and pens so we tried out their journal set.

My daughter loved that the set included a mask and a pair of fuzzy socks.  Fuzzy socks are always on her Christmas list!

Alex & Me Movie Review and Blu-ray Giveaway #AlexandMe #AlexMorgan

Disclosure:  Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own.

In Alex & Me soccer superstar Alex Morgan scores her full-length feature film debut. The movie, also featuring Nickelodeon star Siena Agudong, follows the uplifting story of a young female athlete who learns how you need passion, determination and self-worth to make all your dreams come true.

Teenager Reagan Willis (Agudong) has one dream – to play soccer like her hero, Alex Morgan. Her bedroom is a shrine to all things Alex, including a life-size poster of the Olympic gold medalist. Yet in the Willis house, Reagan lives in the shadow of her prep football superstar brother, Logan. When Reagan fails to make the cut of the premiere local soccer club team and is humiliated by her rival Claire, she’s certain her ship has sailed. But after accidentally hitting her head, Reagan’s poster of Alex Morgan suddenly comes to life and everything changes!

We had a family movie night last night to watch Alex & Me.  Although all of my kids have played soccer we don't have anyone that's die-hard soccer fan so I was wondering how well we would like it.  Thankfully you don't have to know anything about soccer for the movie to be enjoyable.  The story line is relate-able for kids in many areas.  It shows that you my not always make the things you try out for, but that doesn't mean you should give up on those things.  There can be new experiences just around the corner.  It also shows the importance of goal setting and how that can be inspiring to others.

As an adult I could appreciate the importance of having a dedicated space to play or practice.  I could also see how easy it is for parents to get wrapped up with one of their kids while not always seeing the needs of others.  I also liked how the relationship between Reagan and her brother developed throughout the movie.
Alex & Me is out now on Digital, Blu-ray and DVD!

Check out the Alex & Me blog app below to create your own soccer emoji and share it.  You can pick your player's look, signature move, and fun tagline.  Download the Family Goal Chart and have your kids set and mark off goals.  Setting goals is key to success, and the sooner your kids learn that the better they'll be prepared for life.

The Giveaway:  Thanks to Warner Bros. Home Entertainment one lucky winner will receive the Alex & Me Blu-ray combo pack. Giveaway ends June 30th. Good luck!

I Can Only Imagine DVD Review and Giveaway #ICanOnlyImagine #FlyBy

Disclosure:  This movie was provided free of charge for the purpose of this review.

Part of the work I do for this site involves visiting Amazon and a couple categories that I look at daily are kindle books and movies.  I'm always checking out the best-sellers and scouring for deals on movies.  One movie that caught my eye in the last month or so is I Can Only Imagine.  This is a best-selling DVD of a movie I hadn't even heard about until seeing it on Amazon's best seller list. It piqued my curiosity and then I got a chance to review the movie for myself so I could see what had already grabbed so many other's attention.

The film tells the incredible true story behind Christian band
MercyMe’s iconic, history-making song “I Can Only Imagine.” Starring in the
film are up-and-coming Broadway star J. Michael Finley (“Les Miserables”) and
Golden Globe® nominee Dennis Quaid, as well as Trace Adkins, Priscilla C. Shirer, Cloris Leachman, and Madeline Carroll.

Running from a troubled home life and a broken relationship, Bart Millard (Finley) found escape in music. Hitting the road in a decrepit tour bus, Bart and his band MercyMe set out on an amazing journey none of them could have ever imagined, in this uplifting, music-filled movie that beautifully illustrates the power of forgiveness and God’s love.

I've heard the song I Can Only Imagine so many times in my life and sang along without ever really thinking about who wrote the song or why. This movie changed that.  Now whenever I hear the song I will think of the people behind it, our ability to transform and the story of forgiveness.

I started watching the movie with my two youngest kiddos. Next my oldest entered the room and stayed to watch and later when my husband came into the room he ended up not being able to walk away.  The story reeled us in, the music entertained us and the message lifted us up.  I'm glad we got a chance to see it and I look forward to watching it again.

The movie is available now on Amazon.  The home entertainment release of I Can Only Imagine features over 3 hours of extras including 7 deleted scenes, 7 in-depth featurettes, an audio commentary, and more!

The Giveaway:  One lucky winner will receive their own copy of I Can Only Imagine on DVD.  Giveaway is open to US residents only and ends on July 1st. Good luck!

Children's Book Review ~ This Story Is For You by Greg Pizzoli

Disclosure:  This book was provided by Disney Publishing Worldwide for the purpose of this review. All opinions are 100% mine.

This Story Is For You is a children's picture book that was released in hardcover copy last week.  The story by Greg Pizzoli is one that celebrates friendship and what makes us unique. It does so in a sweet way with a message that will resonate with adults and children alike.

About the Book:
Presenting children with the simple yet profound recognition of their uniqueness, This Story Is For You by critically-acclaimed and award-winning author-illustrator Greg Pizzoli paints a powerful picture, letting young readers know that they deserve to be seen and celebrated.

The story and accompanying illustrations show us two friends working and playing together.  As they draw scenes for their show, it comes to life sharing a story of friendship that will endure through time and distance.  The book is very touching to read.  It's not often you get to read children's books that celebrate how special you are for your eyes, nose, fingers and smile.  It's a great message for our kiddos. They should know that they are unique and special, their friends are too and that's why we should all be celebrated.

The illustrations also done by Greg are bright and fun.  The pictures take us along as the two friends bring their show to life on the stage.  My preschooler probably enjoyed the pictures the most as the characters sail on the sea and share a night sky.
