I love reading books with my three kids. I've read so many books over and over again with each of them through the years that I find it really great to when we are introduced to new books together. This winter my youngest and I have been reading William's Winter Nap by Linda Ashman with pictures by Chuck Groenink. It's a story about a boy named William who settles down for nap only to be joined by other creatures longing to come in from the cold.
About the Book:
Just when William is ready to fall asleep in his cozy cabin, there is a tap on his window. A chilly chipmunk asks to stay, and Will scooches over in bed. "There's room for two--I'm sure we'll fit." The chipmunk is just the first in a parade of mammals, each bigger than the last, until the bed is full. Then a note is slipped beneath the door: "Do you have room for just one more?" William tugs the door to see who's there . . . only to find a great big BEAR! Is there enough space to spare? Will the other animals be willing to share?
I love the author's use of rhymes and flow of words. It's fun to read and uses repetition throughout the story. The pictures are also lovely and you understand why all the animals would like to come to William's cozy home. Kiddos can have fun reading along, spotting the different animals in the story and counting the animals sharing the bed. My son loved trying to guess what kind of creature was going to ask to come in next.
I also love the overall welcoming theme of the story. This book has been a perfect winter read for us. I highly recommend this addition to your bookshelf for reading with toddlers and preschoolers. William's Winter Nap is published by Disney-Hyperion is available at all major book retailers now and on Amazon.
