San-J makes Asian inspired products including Tamari Soy Sauce. The brand which was launched in 1978 was first sold in natural food stores. Many health conscious consumers loved the benefits and taste of an all-natural seasoning and the brand has grown in both its popularity and product line.
One of San-J's newest products is their Tamari Lite Gluten Free Soy Sauce with 50% less sodium. I wasn't familiar with Tamari before being introduced to San-J, so I'll share with you what makes the difference between Tamari and regular soy sauce. San-J Tamari is made from 100% soybeans which makes the product naturally gluten-free. Other soy sauces use 40-60% wheat and are produced much more quickly which can lead to more bitter tasting sauce. The 50% less sodium sauce is ideal for those families who want to reduce their salt intake without cutting back on the flavor of their meals.
Another new product from San-J is their Gluten Free Mongolian Beef Sauce. The sauce is certified gluten-free, certified Kosher, contains no artificial additives or preservatives and is Non-GMO project verified. The sauce itself has accents of garlic & ginger flavors. It can be used in stir-fry or as a marinade.
My family received both of these new products to try out for ourselves. We go through a lot of soy sauce in our house because it is my daughter's favorite sauce. She will be happy just eating rice with sauce on it if she doesn't like the meal we're serving. Even though no one in our family is gluten sensitive (that we're aware of) I like knowing that this product is naturally brewed and it's great to have the reduced sodium. She intakes enough sodium as it is, so it is nice to be able to lessen it at times. We all love soy sauce on our stir-fry, but it also tastes great on pot roast and with French-Dip sandwiches.
San-J shares a Mongolian Beef recipe on the bottle of the sauce and it sounds really good, but when we use it we skip the corn starch and oil and just simmer our beef and onions with the sauce. We enjoy it and although it's simple it is still very tasty. Some green onions would add some color and contrast, but we make do when we don't have any on hand.
