Confession - I Love Garage Sales!

I am so excited I finally had a chance to get to some garage sales this past weekend!  It had been too long!  I was so out of routine that I even went without a plan just because I was so ready to go!  Now I know there are some of you out there who still refuse to shop at garage sales or second hand stores, but I'm telling you - you are missing out on some great deals!

I went out Friday morning to a neighborhood sale and bought a dress, two pairs of jeans, 3 sweaters, 1 jacket, 2 summer shirts and a pair of shoes for my daughter.  Plus 1 pair of pants and 3 books for my son all for $ 27.25.  There may be some pro-garage salers out there reading this that might not think an average of $2.50 for the clothing items is a good deal, but keep in mind all the clothing items were either Baby Gap, Gymboree or Children's Place so I was feeling pretty good!  In the future I'll try to get some pictures of my hauls.  This weekend's loot has already been sorted out and semi-put away.

I am always shopping ahead for the kids, so I'm never just looking for summer items or the current season.  If I find something I like that will fit them later down the road I pick it up.  I have bins marked in my basements with either boys or girls sizes so when it's time to get some needed clothes I first go shopping in the basement.

My number one priority is always nice kids' clothes then children's books.  For myself I like to look for movies.  My husband goes for tools.  So what about you?  Do you love garage sales?  What do you look for?

  1. I look for kid's toys. If I can get a great deal on a nice toy- I figure I can make my money back taking it to a consignment shop after my little one is done with it... I will buy clothes and books also...

  4. It has been a looong time since I have been to a garage sale. Our neighborhood used to have a HUGE one every summer and we'd always walk around to all the other houses to check out what they had!

  7. I love garage sales too. The trick is to only get what you really need, not just everything that's a good deal. Otherwise you end up with more junk in your house LOL

  8. I love garage sales and often find things that I can use for diy projects. Occassionally, I find something cool for my vintage shop - www.etsy.com/shop/cherishedhearts

  9. I am usually the one having a garage sale rather than shopping at them. Unfortunately, our new landlords aren't as comfortable with us having one as our previous one was. I guess the tables will turn and I will be the shopper instead of the seller. Found you on the Alexa hop.

  11. I'm not really a garage sale shopper. Sometimes I will hit up the thrift store for items to use in my crafts, but that's about it.

  13. It's been a long time since I've been to a garage sale. I wish I could get into it but I don't think the BF would be up for it, haha. At the moment we can actually afford to buy whats really needed and that's just food and the bills. If it was just up to me, I would love to go garage/yard sale hopping and visiting thrift stores.
