The Best of 2014 Giveaway Hop ~ Enter to Win One of My Favorite Books of 2014

I'm so excited to be a part of this hop because if you follow me on Instagram you know that I love to read!  Starting now thru December, each of the participating bloggers listed below is hosting a great giveaway featuring their favorite book or books that were published in 2014 or that they read in 2014. I will confess that I haven't always been a reader so some my "best of 2014" list are older.  The book that reignited my love for the book was Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl.  I'm an avid reader of Entertainment Weekly and they hyped it up so much that I got it especially for our cruise vacation in 2013.  I read quite a bit after that, but then when I became pregnant with my son my leisure time became sleep time and I stopped.  I had my son in March of this year and once the family was adjusted I discovered that I had lots of quality reading time while he was nursing.  I decided to get right back with another Gillian Flynn novel Dark Places.

I really didn't think I would enjoy this books as much as I did.  It is my second favorite of her books.  During this time period I also read If I Stay because I was hearing about the movie coming out.  I read The Silent Wife because of comparisons to Gone Girl, but honestly didn't really feel like it did compare. I also started reading The 39 Clues series with my son during Summer break.  I really wish he wanted to continue reading them because I was hooked!

I know that I'm late in the game on this one, but this was the year I discovered Liane Moriarty.  I really wanted to read Big Little Lies, but I've been doing my best to be frugal and borrow from the library so that meant I had to wait.  In the mean time I started with The Husband's Secret.  I LOVED it and followed it up with The Hypnotist's Love Story.

  

My favorite book of hers though came next with What Alice Forgot.  I think something about having been married for about the same amount of time and having three kids I could really relate to the book in a lot of ways.  I seriously wanted the book to last forever.

Next came two very different books Gillian Flynn's Sharp Objects and Where'd You Go Bernadette

 

I read The Woman Upstairs after this but it was kind of a struggle getting through it for me.  It felt overly descriptive in parts and had characters I didn't care about.  I was happy to follow it up with Visitation Street that had characters I was actually interested in reading about.  

Next up was We Were Liars and I'll just say that I was not at all prepared for that one.  There were some tears.

After Visiting Friends was a nice change of pace for me.  I really enjoyed reading about the author's journey to learn more about his father.  And being from the Midwest I felt like I had sense of places he wrote about whether it was Iowa, Nebraska or Chicago.

After a long wait came Big Little Lies and yes, the wait was worth it.  I was interested to read that it is in talks to be made into a TV miniseries. That could be interesting and I'd want to watch.

The last two books I read this year are Before We Met and Bellweather Rhapsody.  I really liked them both.  I enjoyed Bellweather Rhapsody because I was involved in music in high school at the same time this book was set in and how can I not love a book that mentions a Weezer album??

  

Okay I think that about sums up the list.  I probably forgot one or two, but these are the ones that stand out  Oh, and I'm currently reading Everything I Never Told You.  Although I'm not done I can still recommend it.
