Family Event Review ~ Monster Jam Des Moines, Iowa

This post contains sponsored content.

Monster Jam, the monster truck tour rolled into Des Moines, Iowa this past weekend and my family got our first glimpse of this hugely popular event on Friday night. In every city a pit party is held before the main show that gives fans the opportunity to take photographs, get driver autographs and check out the monster trucks on display.  Although I now know that my son would have loved doing this we didn't get passes for that this year.  So our night started when all the monster trucks roared in and staged themselves around the arena.  Their entrance was the noisiest part of the night.  We could tell those who have been at the event before because they were prepared for the noise with their earmuffs/earplugs.

Next came lots of great racing action as the 8 trucks competed two at a time in elimination races.   There were lots of rollovers, but these huge trucks are made it for it and soon they were right back in the action.

In between the racing and the freestyle competition there were 4-wheeler races and dirt bikes.  My son said his favorite part was watching the dirt bikers perform their aerial maneuvers.  My hubby's favorite part of the night was the freestyle competition. He liked watching their jumps.

Approximately 12 feet tall and about 12 feet wide, monster trucks are custom-designed machines that sit atop 66-inch-tall tires and weigh a minimum of 10,000 pounds. Monster trucks can fly up to 125 to 130 feet (a distance greater than 14 cars side by side) and up to 35 feet in the air.

My hubby and son had an awesome time at this event and have already talked about wanting to go again the next time it's in town.  To find out when Monster Jam is heading to an arena or stadium near you be sure to visit MonsterJam.com.

Disclosure:  My family received tickets to this event in exchange for this post.  All opinions are my family's own.
