Court Yard Hounds Amelita Album Review #CYHAmelita

I received this album free of charge in exchange for this post.

There was a time in my life when I listened to a lot of country music and that was about the time the Dixie Chicks got everyone's attention with the album Wide Open Spaces.  No one could deny the amazing harmonies and excellent songwriting and it's still one of my favorite albums.  So even though my musical preferences have changed as I've gotten older I had a strong feeling I would still really enjoy listening to the newest album Amelita from the Court Yard Hounds.  For those of you that don't know Court Yard Hounds is the band formed by Emily Robison and Martie Maguire, the two sisters who were 2/3 of the Dixie Chicks.

Amelita is the 2nd album by the Court Yard Hounds and was just released last week. The album does feature all the great vocals I expected and the harmonies between the two still sound great.  I'm not sure if this album is classified as Country.  There are definitely elements of bluegrass and songs like "Phoebe" that get a little rocking.  I have to say that after listening to the album all the way through a couple of times I definitely prefer the first half off the album.  Three of the last 4 songs were slower and didn't stand out to me as much as the album opener "Sunshine" and the title track "Amelita". I think "Sunshine" is my favorite track and after listening to it multiple times I realized that I have someone like that in my life.
