Rod Stewart Time Album Review #TimeWithRod

A copy of this album was received for the purpose of a review.

Rod Stewart has been making music for longer than I've been around.  The man has spent multiple decades of his life writing songs and singing with his distinctive voice.  I'm not sure if I'm confessing my age here, but the first Rod Stewart song I really liked was "Some Guys Have All the Luck".  I grew up with MTV and I have memories of him dancing in that video.  When it came time to go to summer camp I remember them playing a slide show with his song "Forever Young" accompanying the candid shots.  In recent years he has had great success with his Great American Songbook albums.

This week Rod Stewart did something he hadn't done in 20 years.  He released his first album of new material.  The album "Time" includes 12 tracks and Rod wrote and produced 11 of them.  There is no question from first listen this is a Rod Stewart album.  His voice is unmistakable and honestly sounds just as good as he did 30 years ago.  He's a great singer and this album is just more proof of that along with memorable song writing.

I wasn't sure what to expect from the album at first, but I was happy when the opening song was an upbeat song.  It kept up the pace with the second track "Can't Stop Me Now" which I found to be motivational. I had a couple of favorite tracks including "Beautiful Morning" and the album title track "Time".  I also really enjoyed the piano included on track 9 "Picture in a Frame".  There are a lot of sentimental songs on the album which makes perfect sense.  Stewart himself said that one of the songs "It's Over" is about divorce and separation.  The lyrics of "Brighton Beach" also seemed to be about loss and longing.  The album is definitely worth a listen especially if you're any type of Rod Stewart fan.
