"I want to take you on a wonderful journey about love—all different kinds of love," Michael says. "The album swings big time: it rocks, it’s soulful, it’s happy, sometimes a little sad. It’s romantic, it’s yummy, and it’s heartfelt."
Michael Bublé's 7th studio album was released on April 23rd and this time he's taking a turn covering some American standards. The album To Be Loved features 14 tracks including 4 original songs all co-written by Bublé. The covers include songs that will probably be familiar to you because they come from the likes of Frank Sinatra, The Bee Gees, Jackson 5 and more.
I didn't become familiar with this Canadian crooner until the song "Haven't Met You Yet" was released and the video got some serious airtime on VH1. I remember thinking he was very likable and had a nice voice. This album is the same way. It's nice easy listening and he sounds great.
The album opens with the tune "You Make Me Feel So Young". It's a song that is very well known in my opinion and I've heard several versions of over the years. Bublé's version can stand up to the rest of them. He definitely holds his own and you know this is the type of music he should be singing. If you've read any of my past album reviews you know I like songs that are upbeat, so I really liked the second track "It's a Beautiful Day". I think it is my favorite on the album. I also really loved his cover of Frank Sinatra's "Young At Heart" that closes the album. I don't know why that song makes me emotional, but it does.
We are fans of the Toy Story movies in this house so it was fun to hear him cover Randy Newman's "You've Got a Friend In Me". I thought Reese Witherspoon was an interesting choice to duet with on "Something Stupid". I couldn't help but think listening to it that Zooey Deschanel would have been a sweeter vocal partner. Overall I'm liking listening to the entire album and like having music by a current artist that multiple generations would all enjoy.
