Review ~ Smart Balance Heart Healthier Products

Smart Balance is a company that strives to create great tasting and heart-healthy products.  Smart Balance products are different because they contain no hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils, are 0g trans fat naturally and are gluten-free.  Plus many of their products contain Omega 3s, vitamins, calcium and protein. 

I was provided with an assortment of Smart Balance heart healthier products to try out.  The products pictured above are just some of the many items Smart Balance produces.  They have lines of Milk, Buttery Spreads, Buttery Sticks, Oils and Sprays, Popcorns, Peanut Butters, Light Mayonnaise and Eggs.

The first product that disappeared from the cupboard was the Smart Balance Light Butter Popcorn.   I'll have to admit this was mostly my doing.  I'll often pop a bag of microwave popcorn for lunch if I'm not eating what the kids are eating or leftovers just won't cut it.  The Smart Balance Light Butter Popcorn had a great buttery flavor and I loved that it didn't leave the big oily mess a lot of other butter popcorn makes. 

The next product that didn't last very long was the Smart Balance Rich Roast Creamy Peanut Butter and Omega-3 from Flax Oil.   I will say that I thought the flavor was a little different, but that is probably because I'm not used to eating an all-natural peanut butter.  Peanut butter on toast has become my official breakfast over the past year and it's nice having an option that also provides the added Omega-3 benefit.

The product that surprised us the most was the Smart Balance Omega Non-Stick Cooking Spray.   My husband and I have been married 10 years and in that entire time we have never once bought a cooking spray.  My hubby doesn't believe in them and he does most of the cooking and baking so I went along with whatever he said.  Well after I told him he had to try the Smart Balance spray he is now a believer in the power of cooking spray.  We made an egg breakfast bake that we were able to serve neatly without scraping the dish and my brownies were near perfect on the bottom when using the spray.  It's a product we're going to be keeping on hand. 

Our buttery sticks were put to normal usage for baking oatmeal chocolate-chip cookies and coooking the kids' macaroni & cheese.  The cookies turned out great as usual and the kids didn't notice the extra Vitamin E and DHA Omega-3s in their lunch.
