We are not a pet owning family and that is a choice solely made by my husband and I.  If the kids had their way we would have a dog, or a cat or just about anything we would allow them to have.  They have so much fun playing with other family member's pets, but we're so busy as it is I can't imagine adding another living thing under this roof.  We were introduced recently to The Happy's, a new line of interactive plush toy pets.  In my household they're the next best thing to the real thing.  

The Happy's are motorized plush toys that love to play with you.  Each pet comes with its own interactive happy treat you can use to have the animal follow you, spin and sit up.  You can also get a ball (sold separately) that they will chase and run after.  My family received Chance the puppy and the Chase & Play Ball.  The kids loved him right away and as soon as we put batteries in it they were ready to play.  They had the most fun using the treat get him to follow them.  I knew they were quite fond of him they set him up with his own bed that very first night of play.  I'll admit he is pretty cute.
