15 Songs Every Kid Should Know ~ Music Review & Giveaway

I received a copy of this CD for the purpose of a review and giveaway.

The pool I bought passes to for the summer is a good 10 minute drive from our house.  That gives me and the kids at least 20 minutes in the car together every time we want to visit which we are trying to do often to make good use of our pass.  The main way we like to pass the time is by listening to music in the car.  The kids enjoy listening to the radio, but they got a little more excited when I put in a new CD I had received.  Their ears perked up when they started hearing the tune "5 Green & Speckled Frogs".  My daughter loves that song.  She learned it last summer at day camp and used to sing it for us constantly.  The cool thing about the song was that it didn't sound like any version we had heard before.  This version sounded jazzy and soulful with a great rhythm.  When the next song a Cajun version of "Shoo Fly" came on both kids were hooked and wondering what song would play next and what it would sound like when it did.  They liked that the songs on CD were ones that they mostly knew already and could sing along too, but that also sounded funky and different.

15 Songs Every Kid Should Know is an album full of classic children's songs all done with a twist.  On the CD you'll hear some Bluegrass, Cajun, Rockabilly, Jazz, Irish Roots, African Drumming, Cuban, Soul, Funk and Folk music.  Tracks include popular songs you are sure to know including "Old McDonald" and "Wheels on the Bus", but also include some lesser know songs (at least to me) like "Aiken Drum" and "Waltzing Matilda".  Over 40 musicians took part in recording this album and I think it's really an impressive compilation. We're a family of music lovers and I love exposing the kids to music they don't hear on a regular basis.  This is an easy way to introduce them to music of different cultures.

With this fun and upbeat music CD your kids are sure to find a few of their favorite tunes.  My personal favorite was the sweet bluegrass version of "Hush Little Baby".  We'll be listening to it more this summer as we commute to and from the swimming pool.  To learn more about the CD and purchase visit BossyFrog.com.
