Restaurant_com Celebrates National Pizza Month #NationalPizzaMonth #spon

I'm not exaggerating when I say that my family eats a lot of pizza.  We had it tonight at my parent's house for my mom's birthday dinner and we had it earlier this week when we were had little time and rumbling tummies. Sometimes we make pizza ourselves either homemade or frozen, sometimes we go out because all of our favorite pizza joints are family friendly and it's often the first thing we think of for carry-out.

In celebration of National Pizza Month Restaurant.com compiled this delicious infographic based on a survey that asked diners, “How well-rounded is your pizza-eating routine?”

Do any of the findings surprise you?  I'm not at all surprised that 81% of diners prefer independently owned restaurants versus popular pizza chains. When we go out of town I'm always looking at reviews for locally owned pizza places.  We love trying new and tasty pizza creations.  At least my hubby and I do; my son is a strictly sausage kid.

Here are some other key facts that might surprise you:
·  A majority of pizza eaters also seek deals or coupons for their purchase at least some of the time when ordering pizza.
·  Rather than choose delivery, 37.5 percent of diners said they dine out for pizza because of its convenience (accessibility, timeliness).
·  Chicago Style Deep Dish was one of the least preferred crusts (8.5 percent) among those surveyed. Thin and crunchy was the most popular crust among respondents in our survey (39.9 percent) followed by hand-tossed, New York Style crust (38.9 percent).

  8. I agree that most pizza eaters seek coupons before that order pizza for great deals. Pizza is so expensive and you will have to pay so much just for the pizza you want. I definitely look for coupons to save me some money.

  9. I agree with the carry out/delivery part. I know we rarely choose a pizza place to go out to eat but we often choose to have it delivered to our home.

  34. I found lots of surprises - maybe the topping that liost would be that about 33% have pizza ONCE a week - and I guess I'm surprised by thar 37%+ choose of pizza eaters choose to dine in instead pf delivery or carry out. And also about the popularity of mushrooms as a topping!

And finally that the majority of pizza lovers prefer thin to thick crust (pan) pizza. We went through a brief time in college when Thick Crust and Stuffed were all the rage - but for us it was a very brief passing fancy and stuffed pizza was a real no-go with us.

We still prefer thin - even very thin crust with top quality ingredients that enhance it rather than bring literally piled on so your always feel unpleasantly stuffed afterward!

We don't have pizza everyweek - but really enjoy it every couple of weeks.
