Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns About Sportsmanship Book Review & Giveaway

The Howard B. Wigglebottom series of books were created to be entertaining while still teaching important life lessons like how to listen and feel good about yourself.  Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns About Sportsmanship:  Winning Isn't Everything was my first exposure to the series.  I enjoyed reading it with my 5 year old son.  Although he has not been on a conventional team that has wins or losses yet I know the time is coming.  He is at an age where he soaks everything in and if we are reading about what it means to be a team player the story from the book will stick with him.

In this story Howard goes from being a ball hog who sometimes cheats and calls his team mates names to a team player who shares the ball and says positive things to those he's playing with.  The story centered around a soccer game which my son especially liked since he plays.  He also really enjoyed the illustrations throughout the book.  The book was very easy for him to follow along with and understand. Personally I liked a lot of the wording used in the book.  For example Howard's coach tells him he is making poor choices which is something I hear myself saying quite often.  I also liked that at the end even though he doesn't win he's told he can be very proud of himself.  At the back of the book you'll find "Suggestions for Lessons and Reflections" that provides multiple talking points to discuss with your child.  I appreciate having that as a resource.

You can learn more about the Howard B. Wigglebottom series at WeDoListen.org Check it out for songs, games, posters and even animated books.  All of the Howard B. Wigglebottom books are available on the site on sale right now for only $6.00 each (RV $15) or between $10-$12 each on Amazon.
